Assert in ActionScript

ActionScript 3.0 does not seem to have a built-in assert construct. See here how it can be implemented tru conditional compilation. Still incurs performance penalty..

Pure ActionScript application

I want to just how pure ActionScript works, without embedding in Flash or Flex. But guess what, manual ("Programming Actionscript 3.0") doesn't give a clue how. Until I find these:
